PBC school board set to adopt $2.26B budget Wed.

The Palm Beach County School District continues to face grim prospects in its capital budget, due largely to constraints imposed in recent years by the state.

Wednesday night, the district’s board will be asked to give final approval to a budget that postpones or eliminates more than $66 million in projects, including new roofs and air conditioning systems, once slated for the year.

As laid out at a workshop in late July, the full budget is just over $2.26 billion from local, state and federal sources. District staff has proposed a tax rate of 7.59 per $1,000 of property value.

That’s up less than a penny from last year’s tax rate, but many homeowners have seen their property value increase by an average of 8.25 percent across the county so their tax bills would rise with those increases.

The meeting begins at 5:05 p.m. in the board room of the school district offices at 3300 Forest Hill Blvd. in suburban West Palm Beach.
