So far, the Palm Beach County School District has heard from parents in Boynton Beach, West Palm Beach and the Glades. Tonight the parents in the Royal Palm Beach area have the floor during the fourth ‘Community Input’ meeting to learn what parents think of the state’s testing requirements.
By all accounts, no one in these meetings has stepped forward and praised the frenetic schedule or how the tests have driven lessons in the classroom.
More often they sound like the parents who went to the first meeting in Boynton Beach, where parents fought tears to describe hours of homework, children with crippling test anxiety and teachers expressed frustration over the lack of proper material and training to prepare for a test that few have seen beyond an online sample.
The statewide tests are new and based on Florida Standards – which has its roots in the nationally known Common Core.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the Royal Palm Beach High School’s auditorium at 10600 Okeechobee Blvd.
The last meeting is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Olympic Heights’ auditorium west of Boca Raton.
